During the 1930s every little piece of raw material was precious, in a way these hard times led to some of the most beautiful and imaginative designed jackets of all time. Few are as spectacular as the mix of wool and leather. A truly eye-catching, yet practical jacket.
As we’ve been inundated with requests to reintroduce this style, here it is again , a style we first offered as far back as the early 1990s. We’ve rescued the original patterns from the mothballs and fine tuned the proportions. We have raised the waistband and pocket positions, trimmed the sleeves ever so slightly and added a centre pleat to the back. Nothing too drastic, and certainly nothing that would alter the character or period authenticity of the jacket, we’ve just improved an already fine design.
We’ve also tried a few other combinations of wool and leather and found that the panel configuration of our “Pioneer” is perfect for this style, everyone at Aero loves this new version of our old favourite. Basically both variations of the jacket have the same back, sleeve and cuff, but with quite different fronts, so the choice is Type I, the original with the long leather panel alongside the zipper or the Type II with a leather yoke instead.
