The 1938 Aero A-2 has many features not found on the later wartime A-2 jackets, the zip fitting for instance is a complex system with the left hand side of the zipper fitted between two slim leather facings which protects the lining from being caught in the zipper. The jacket has the earlier offset collar design set into to a slim leather collar stand dropped my most manufacturers, including Aero, on their WW2 jackets. The fit is slimmer than all later jackets with a tapered body, slim shoulder and sleeves.
The Aero Leather Clothing Company are proud to offer our prestigious recreation of the 1938 Aero Type A-2, contract number 38-1711-P cut from patterns developed from the original patterns used in 1938. Like all original jackets from this rare contract, our version has a nipple stud snap down flapped patch pockets, although these are slightly smaller than later versions, a shirt-style snap-down collar with collar stand and unusual semi blind neck hooks which, again, were standard to the 1938 pattern Aero A-2, the correct profile epaulettes , knitted wool cuffs and waistband, a back constructed from a single piece of leather to limit stress on the garment, The jacket is fitted with a perfect replica of the original woven Air Corps label sewn into the pure Cotton lining and the jacket is finished off with extra top stitching around the bottom of the jacket and cuffs, a feature that is unique to the 1938 Aero.
