During our recent research into the development of the classic Half Belt through it’s 1930s heyday, we tried all manner of different back, front and cuff designs – this combination seems to work really well together.

 

The “Sunburst” back itself is probably a throwback from the 1920s but, as The Depression bit harder, clothing manufacture and design reflected the need to conserve raw materials and leather jackets began to use more small panels and a slimmer cut. What started out as economy gave us some of the most interesting and stylish jackets of the 20th Century. We’ve added this dramatic back to a classic 1930’s sloping front, but used a less angled handwarmer pocket design than those fitted to most Aero jackets, along with a straight zippered breast pocket. We’ve not used this cuff design for a very long time but, as it’s typical of the cuff used on many 1930’s jackets, we felt it was due to be revived.

 

The resulting jacket is very pleasing on the eye and with a couple of years wear will be indistinguishable from a well preserved 1930s original.
