This is the first garment from Aero based on clothing from the Edwardian era and has proven so popular since we launched it around a decade ago, it’s one of the few items we make for stock!
This fitted waistcoat is cut higher at the front and with more length than a suit waistcoat, while the pockets are deeper and more practical than those found in most waistcoats. It’s usually cut from one of our midweight leathers such as Battered Steerhide and has an English Melton Wool back (although a full leather version is available) with an adjustable centre back cinch belt to help keep out the elements. It’s lined in heavy cotton “ticking” and fitted with larger than usual leather buttons and buttonholes for ease of use while wearing gloves.
The Shackleton is the perfect accessory for any stylish wardrobe, effortlessly exuding sophistication, and a timeless elegance. It’s perfect for pairing with a crisp dress shirt or a favourite sweater. Whether you’re looking to dress up for a formal occasion or add a touch of rugged charm to your casual look, our Shackleton Waistcoat is the perfect choice. With its versatility, exceptional quality, and timeless style, it’s sure to become a staple in any wardrobe for years to come.
Design Etymology
Named after the legendary Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton, we’ve modelled this stylish and practical garment on the typical expedition waistcoat worn by members of Shackleton’s Nimrod expedition to the South pole. Typically, this type of garment was worn as part of layering against the elements, probably over a thick roll neck and under a heavy-duty jacket. Our version can also be worn as part of layering but works even better when it’s shown off over a shirt or sweater.
