Sears and Roebuck produced various versions of the Hercules jacket between the early 1930s and at least until 1948. We’ve had a very early original version in our Archives for over 20 years, probably dating to around 1934 or 1935. As far as our research suggests, it’s the second model produced by Sears & Roebuck.
Later versions were fitted with a breast pocket which closed with looped ball and chain zipper, this option and alternative linings are available to order. We feel that the Hercules is a very special jacket that is most definitely worth recreating. We suggest our Vicenza Horsehide or our Tumbled Front Quarter Horse are the most suitable hides for this jacket.
The Hercules jacket fit is slim and neat, typical of the era. The seams are virtually all triple stitched, and the cinch belts are much lower than almost all other Half Belt varieties. A small throat latch adds to the foul weather protection. Even the label is typical of the era and, like the original, our jacket is fitted with a “Hookless” grommet zipper as standard.
